The common rail fuel system in diesel engines is made up from; a high-pressure fuel rail feeding a set of injectors to atomize the fuel, powered by a fuel injection pump. All controlled by the ECU (electronic control unit), which ensures diesel fuel is injected at the correct stage, even multiple injections per stroke. Older engines use a unit injection systems of rotary or inline pumps to provide the fuel delivery. Perkins fuel systems are carefully designed and tested over tens of thousands of hours to ensure performance is met. Each fuel system is selected and tuned for the application to ensure both torque and power is delivered within the selected rpm range and to deliver the best fuel consumption.
